Services for the development and evaluation of components and systems under Industry 4.0 and the security of networked production plants will be in the spotlight at TÜV SÜD’s presence at MOTEK 2017, held in Stuttgart from 9–12 October 2017. The service provider will showcase its services for machine safety, functional safety, IT security and Sealed Cloud solutions at the shared stand of Landesnetzwerk Mechatronik (Baden-Württemberg Mechatronics Network) in Hall 8, stand D20.
The smart factories of tomorrow are based on modular structures. Standardised interfaces and state-of-the-art information technology can form the basis for highly flexible automated “plug and produce” production operations. To achieve this, requirements concerning interoperability, functional safety and IT security must be defined and implemented for components, machine modules and systems. In smart factories, people and collaborating robots – or COBOTS – work hand in hand. A prerequisite for the safe, secure utilisation of these devices is an extensive risk evaluation process, including assessment of the direct operational environment.
“The reference system of the ‘Arena of Integration’ established by Baden-Württemberg Mechatronics Network is an impressive example of what the modular production facilities of the future will look like”, says Dr Detlev Richter, Vice President and Global Head of Industrial and Energy Products at TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH. “However, at MOTEK we will also demonstrate that occupational safety cannot be evaluated on the basis of reference systems.” The member companies of the Arena of Integration are collaborating over standardisation projects based on Industry 4.0 reference architecture, with the aim of enabling application-specific evaluations of actual production plants to receive smart support from their digital ‘twins’, ensuring their prompt performance and completion.
Sealed Cloud as enabler of Industry 4.0
A further core topic for TÜV SÜD at Motek 2017 will be the role of Sealed Cloud as an enabler for Industry 4.0. The international service provider acquired a majority share in Uniscon GmbH in July 2017, thus taking up a position at the heart of the digital transformation “Our internationally patented technology supports secure data processing in the cloud; not even the platform operator has access to the unencrypted data stored and processed by the users on its platform”, explains Dr. Ralf Rieken, COO of Uniscon GmbH. He describes this feature as a completely unique selling point of Uniscon’s cloud solutions, and one that has already convinced many prestigious customers and leading industrial companies and banks.
