Europe-wide standards for the metal construction industry: TÜV SÜD provides certification services according to EN 1090 and the EU Construction Products Regulation
The new Construction Products Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011 (CPR) came into full effect on 1 July 2013. Within the scope of implementation of the regulation, harmonised standards are being applied and replacing the previous national standards. For example, European Standard EN 1090 is replacing the German standards DIN 18800-7 for steel structures and DIN V 4113-3 for aluminium structures.
According to the CPR in conjunction with European Standard EN 1090 (see also note on Eurocode), all economic operators who wish to place load-bearing steel and aluminium structures on the EU market must comply with a number of requirements, such as affixing the CE marking to their products.
The absence of the CE mark may have legal consequences in the event of a damages claim.
One prerequisite for CE marking is "conformity assessment". The key elements of conformity assessment are:
- Initial inspection of the products by the manufacturer.
- Product tests during production in the factory, according to established surveillance and inspection plans.
- Establishment and maintenance of factory production control.
- Certification of factory production control by a third-party certification body notified for the scope of the CPR (Notified Body).
TÜV SÜD is a certification body accredited for EN 1090
TÜV SÜD Industrie Service was one of the first certification bodies for metal construction products in Germany to become accredited by Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH (DAkkS) and notified for the CPR. As an inspection agency and certification body authorised by Deutsche Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt), we can also support manufacturers by providing inspection and certification services according to EN 1090.
With a TÜV SÜD certificate, you can establish your compliance with the relevant requirements of the CPR or EN 1090 series of standards and become authorised to affix the CE marking to your products.
Based on requirements set forth in standards or customer requests, certification may also be required in other areas, such as under the scope of state building codes according to DIN 18800-7 and/or EN ISO 17660 or in the free-market sector according to EN ISO 3834 for the qualification of welding companies. As an accredited certification body, TÜV SÜD can offer the relevant certificates.
