Successful pilot projects have established the applicability of Building Information Modelling (BIM) throughout the lifecycles of buildings and infrastructure. At BIM World MUNICH 2017, which will take place in Munich from 28 to 29 November 2017, TÜV SÜD will inform about the systematic use of BIM as the standard for digital design, construction and operation (Foyer, Stand 35).
BIM is an integrated model-based working method used for generating and managing information in building projects. It is based on clearly defined tasks and communication interfaces. Digital data models are used as tools to coordinate different project information and optimise processes. “For us, the 'I' in BIM stands not only for 'information', but also for 'intelligence', in the sense of a defined, practice-focused application of intelligent building models that focuses on adding value”, says Tobias Schmidt, Senior Consultant and BIM expert at TÜV SÜD Advimo GmbH.
Focus on adding value and return on investment (ROI)
The experts at TÜV SÜD Advimo support investors, public-sector clients and industry users by providing a broad portfolio of services, ranging from assessment of whether a planned property is suitable for BIM to development of BIM strategies, BIM implementation and BIM application during operation of the building. “We never lose sight of practicality, feasibility and our customers’ benefits throughout all our services”, emphasises Schmidt. Digital lifecycle management must not be allowed to become an end in itself, he warns, but must always focus on added value and returns on investment (ROI).
