The Deutsche Gütesiegel Nachhaltiges Bauen (DGNB) was introduced in 2008 and is widely used in Germany.
Currently at least 1000 projects have been certified according to the DGNB (Source: DGNB, 2016). The parent company of DGNB - Systems is the „Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen“, based in Stuttgart, Germany.
The DGNB system has been developed on the basis of German standards and regulations. It considers the whole building lifecycle and takes into account ecological, economical, functional and technical process related factors. The evaluation differentiates between the quality of the Building and its Location.
The DGNB seal of approval is issued in the quality levels – BRONZE (only for existing buildings) – SILVER – GOLD – PLATINUM.
