Functional Safety Certification Program (FSCP)
About FSCP
TÜV SÜD originally developed the first functional safety certification program (formally CFSE - Certified Functionally Safety Expert ) in 1999. Since 1999 over 1000 professionals in the field of functional safety have been certified by TÜV SÜD. The original certification program was meant for professionals in the process industry. Today functional safety is such a wide spread subject matter and applied in so many different industries that an expansion of the program has been undertaken. A new name is introduced to better represent the new scope of the program. The program is now called the functional safety certification program.
The objective of the functional safety certification program (FSCP) has not changed and still is to certify professionals or their knowledge in functional safety. Within the FSCP it is possible to obtain two kinds of qualifications:
- Functional Safety Professional (FSP)
- Functional Safety Expert (FSE)
The scope of the FSC program has been significantly extended and it is possible to obtain the above qualifications for the following industries:
- Automotive
- Factory Automation
- Process
- Railway
Within these industries different fields exist. Each qualification can be obtained for typical fields like:
- Hardware and software design and development;
- Functional safety management;
- Safety instrumented systems
- Machinery safety.
For each qualification different criteria apply that are determined by the Governance Board. In both cases it is necessary to have experience in functional safety in the applicable industry and field. The level of education can give experience credit.
