TÜV SÜD Industrie Service awarded the Energy-Efficient System certificate to a mechatronic drive system of SEW-EURODRIVE
The certification experts also tested an analysis tool that helps to choose the right drive solution
More and more national and international directives call for improved energy efficiency of electrical drive systems. Manufacturers use TÜV SÜD's "Energy-Efficient System" certificate to document that their products comply with a high standard and can also be operated efficiently at their later place of use.
The host of electrical drive systems available on the market sometimes vary significantly in terms of energy efficiency. SEW-EURODRIVE, Bruchsal, commissioned TÜV SÜD Industrie Service to put MOVIGEAR, its state-of-the-art drive solution, through its paces. MOVIGEAR combines gears, motor and frequency converter in a single housing and is used in horizontal material handling applications such as assembly lines or filling systems. The certification process was preceded by a comprehensive energy audit comprising in-depth assessments at SEW EURODRIVE.The audit not only focused on the energy efficiency of the individual components and their interactions, but also analysed specific conditions and modes of operation at various load levels and rpms.
Certification criteria and consumption analysis
Within the scope of their energy audit, TÜV SÜD's experts analysed the energy efficiency of the MOVIGEAR mechatronic drive system, comparing it against the best available technology (BAT). The TÜV SÜD professionals started by measuring the system's power and energy demand and comparing it to industry-specific benchmarks and indicators. TÜV SÜD's measurements and analyses of the available data examined whether MOVIGEAR offered better overall efficiency than the standard solution. All values were compared with those set forth in the BAT reference documents for motors (Regulation (EC) No. 2009/641). TÜV SÜD's experts were able to confirm and certify that MOVIGEAR operates at an efficiency ratio that significantly outperforms that of the BAT. Compared to other drive systems available on the market, MOVIGEAR consumes up to 50 per cent less energy.
TÜV SÜD not only delivered "Energy-Efficient System" certification for the mechatronic drive system; the technical service provider also reviewed and certified SEW EURODRIVE's energy report. The energy consumption analysis supplies the total energy consumption of a specific application and projected drivetrain, thus providing an ideal decision-making basis for selection of the right drive solution. TÜV SÜD has confirmed the correctness of the analysis of energy consumed by the individual drive components.
