Certification for this market, however, involves highly complex requirements – not least due to the multilevel legal system in the US. In a worstcase scenario this may result in sums of punitive damages unthinkable for Europeans. And as a solely EU standard, the CE marking is not recognized by either US authorities or courts.

Testing itself may only be done by NRTLs (Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories).
