Silver for TÜV SÜD in the prestigious Private Public Award delivers proof that the company’s Annual Report is one of the best publications throughout Germany. The Award’s jury of experts voted our 2014 Annual Report, published in May 2015, into second place. The competition was open to the annual reports of Germany's leading family- and foundation-owned companies. The Private Public Award is organised by communication agency ergo kommunikation and accounting company PKF.
The annual reports of Germany’s 250 leading family-, association- and foundation-owned companies in terms of revenue were evaluated against over 100 criteria which permitted all parts of the reports to be analysed in detail. The Private Public Award thus exceeds the requirements of most other competitions. Beyond analysing individual aspects of the reports of unlisted companies such as the layout or concept, it also delivers an exact benchmark of the quality of the content, language and graphics. The final rating was also influenced by the quality of financial reporting (Management Report & Annexes), the corporate image section, the concept, the general design and the use of digital media.
TÜV SÜD’s Annual Report fared exceptionally well across all these categories, winning silver in the overall rating. Matthias Andreesen Viegas, Head of Corporate Communications at TÜV SÜD, emphasises, “This excellent 2nd place proves that our publication is both innovative and informative in concept, design and content. We are happy that by winning silver, we made it onto the winners‘ podium for the second year running.” In fact, the Annual Report of the technical services company had even been the winner of the Public Private Award in the previous year.
In the Management Report, already given an excellent rating the year before, the jurors again made positive mention of the outstanding reader guidance, which included a large number of tables and informative diagrams. Special praise was given to the employee report, which was by far the best in this year's competition according to the jury, and the detailed outlook section. “Our financial reporting aims to bring transparency to current facts and figures in order to guide our readers in assessing the future development of our group. I am very happy that the regulatory requirements in the Annex and Management Report received a positive rating from the jury as being easy to read and understand”, says Stefan Lembert, Head of Corporate Accounting of TÜV SÜD. The Annual Report of the international technical services corporation is a joint project by Corporate Communications and Corporate Finance and Accounting.
Project Manager Jörg Riedle, TÜV SÜD, and the lead agency Strichpunkt chose the question “What if...?” as theme of the publication. The idea behind this theme was that megatrends such as globalisation, technical innovation and people’s need for a sustainable way of life are changing our society throughout the world. TÜV SÜD is facing up to the challenges resulting from these changes, offering concrete answers to the issues of tomorrow. The jury was very impressed by the fascinating realisation of this theme and the high quality of the design. The corporate image section received a top rating in the competition with the superior, high-end design receiving special mention.
