Automated driving, electromobility and new digital services for the transport industry will be TÜV SÜD's focus topics at the International Motor Show (IAA), held in Frankfurt/Main from 14 to 24 September. At its stand in Hall 8, TÜV SÜD will showcase its entire service portfolio for car retailers and garages, fleet operators and the automotive industry, including remarketing services for used cars, damage management, electromobility and automated driving. Using Blue Box modular testing equipment, the service experts will demonstrate the potential for development within the scope of periodic technical inspections (PTI). At the press conference on 13 September, CEO Patrick Fruth will provide a detailed outlook into the future of mobility.
Digitisation is changing the world of transportation. Beyond enabling automated driving in the future, it will also offer enormous opportunities in terms of services. Take the example of shared mobility; here, digitisation will make car sharing a really easy procedure, accessible to anybody. Consolidation of car dealerships continues, with retailers requiring a full range of services from a single source and across borders. Accordingly, TÜV SÜD has further developed its entire range of services, presenting the industry with new digital service packages.
The offer extends from comprehensive solutions for remarketing, damage and fleet management to improvement of digital performance in car dealerships. Patrick Fruth, CEO of TÜV SÜD's Auto Service Division says: “The car industry is facing disruptive changes. We provide consultancy and assistance to help our customers cope with these changes, and have expanded our range of services accordingly. Passion. Trust. Future. – 360° Mobility Services. For us, this means we offer our customers a full service programme, helping them to cope with the structural changes and keep all processes under control.”
We ensure safety in highly automated driving
As a partner of industry, TÜV SÜD collaborates closely with OEMs, suppliers and official authorities on the issue of automated driving. Our activities focus on the development of innovative test and inspection methods that prioritise simulations, designed to ensure the safety of highly automated vehicles. The PEGASUS research project by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy is one example in this field. As the only testing and inspection organisation involved in the project, TÜV SÜD is collaborating with 16 partners from the worlds of industry and science on developing the requirements for methods and tools used in the approval of future automated vehicles.
Remarketing under full control
Digitisation in car dealerships: Standardised vehicle-management processes ensure faster workflows in car dealerships, thereby reducing costs. TÜV SÜD offers its customers a full range of new services, such as PDA for the creation of digital vehicle files, the TIM software, which prepares expert reports and valuations in real time and in several languages, and the Foto-Fairy image tool. These services facilitate digital process control and vehicle handling, contributing to shorter vehicle holding times and evaluating lease returns according to clear and uniform international standards. Blue Button, an online damage management platform, provides customers with damage reports in the blink of an eye.
And on the subject of online, TÜV SÜD's experts will be available live on Skype throughout the entire IAA, providing answers on special topics. Patrick Fruth: “Our portfolio covers the entire vehicle cycle, from the moment a car is received by a dealership to the sale or resale of new and used cars, with digital systems supporting us every step of the way.”
Even in the periodic technical inspection of vehicles, TÜV SÜD almost literally meets its customers halfway, with the first modular testing station. Requiring very little planning, Blue Box can be installed easily at the sites of car dealerships. The modular Blue Box system offers versatile functions for periodic technical inspections, damage expert reports, lease returns and used-car valuations. It is supplied with cutting-edge testing equipment and can be installed within only two days.
Thanks to its global network of battery testing laboratories, TÜV SÜD has been a traditional partner in homologation processes for both the battery and automotive industries. At their laboratories in Germany, the USA, Canada, China, Korea, Singapore and Japan, the battery experts offer the entire range of performance and safety tests as well as type approvals according to the expanded UN ECE-R100 regulation. Beyond perfect and streamlined test processes, a particular area of focus is on close collaboration with customers in areas such as the interpretation of test results to further improve the safety of battery systems. TÜV SÜD is one of the leading certification bodies for electric car charging stations in Europe, and has advocated high and uniform international safety standards in electromobility for years – for example, in its role as a service provider supporting OEMs in vehicle design and development.
DYCOT – turbo-charging vehicle design and development
While the design and development cycles of new vehicle models are growing shorter, car manufacturers are striving to reduce costs. Simulation and non-destructive testing can provide valuable support in this respect. Offering Dynamic Component Testing (DYCOT), TÜV SÜD is a competent and independent service provider of industry in the design and development phase.
Digital services for OEMs and car dealerships, automated driving, e-mobility – at the IAA 2017, TÜV SÜD showcases its entire know-how and full range of services in the fields of cars and mobility. “By presenting innovative topics at the IAA, we are underlining our position as a leading partner of industry at one of the world's largest motor tradeshows”. says Fruth.
