AMI 2012: "Family car of the year" receives award at TÜV SÜD stand
(15.05.2012)Under the motto "Making transport safe and reliable – TÜV SÜD", the service provider will showcase its broad range of services at the AMI trade show held between 2 and 10 June in Leipzig. One of the focal themes will be the changes in roadworthiness testing scheduled to come into effect from July onwards. A highlight at TÜV SÜD's stand in Hall 3: on 1 June, 12:35 pm will be the announcement of the winners in the "Family Car of the Year" awards. This will be the first year that TÜV SÜD is a partner in the readers' choice competition held by the motor magazine AutoStraßenverkehr.

The acquisition of the company headquartered in Hong Kong marks the expansion of TÜV SÜD Rail's consulting, testing and certification services for urban rail projects in the metropolitan regions of Asia Pacific and beyond.

(10.05.2012)Generous interpretations of driving laws abroad by holiday-makers are now a thing of the past. Based on the "Law on mutual assistance in legal matters" that has now been in effect for one year, German authorities now also enforce penalty notices from abroad. As speeding, tailgating and drink-driving is rather expensive in most countries, one or the other holiday-maker may have a rude awakening upon returning home. In addition to more familiar "cardinal sins" in road traffic, motorists must observe a host of specific national regulations. France, for example, has introduced a new law demanding that every car must carry a breathalyzer kit. TÜV SÜD has summarized the most important tips on how to stay within the law while going on holidays.

(07.05.2012)Nine trucks, three years and a total mileage of 3.24 million kilometres: the starting flag for Europe's largest truck field test has been waved on the EuroSpeedway Lausitz motor-racing circuit. TÜV SÜD's commercial vehicle experts will accompany the test as technical partners. Providing third-party testing and inspection, they will verify that the nine trucks participating in the long-term test comply with the strict field-test regulations.

AVTS Roadworthy Station, TÜV SÜD's partner in the vehicle inspection market at the southern tip of Africa has passed a significant landmark by completing its one-millionth roadworthiness test. The two partners are in the pole position for the introduction of periodic vehicle inspection. Moreover, expansion is not limited to vehicle inspection but also includes free-market services for business and private customers.

(02.05.2012)Success story: In 2011 TÜV SÜD set new records for revenue, income and headcount. Last year the international service corporation increased its revenue to almost EUR 1.7 billion (2010: EUR 1.55 billion); compared to the prior year, earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) rose by 12 per cent to around EUR 160 million (2010: EUR 143 million). The number of people working for the largest German TÜV organization grew by 1,100 to a total of over 17,000 employees throughout the world. TÜV SÜD is firmly continuing on its growth path in 2012, again creating over 1,000 new jobs.

(25.04.2012)One of the challenges on the road to achieving significant reductions in the number of severe injuries and deaths on our roads lies in the incorporation of demographic change into accident research. Prof Stefan Strick, President of the Federal Highway Research Institute (Bundesanstalt für Straßenwesen, BASt), emphasized this aspect at the opening of the 2012 crash.tech conference in Munich. In the anniversary year of crash.tech – TÜV SÜD launched the conference series 20 years ago – over 150 experts attending the conference ending today (25 April) focused on the combination of passive and active safety systems and on new challenges in road traffic such as electromobility.
