The technical data

When inspecting an imported vehicle, the officially authorised TÜV SÜD-expert also needs to specify the technical data for the registration papers; e.g. the category of exhaust emissions necessary for a registration in German, which is also crucial for calculating the annual vehicle tax.
Usually, the service centres do not have all the required information from good authority for US-vehicles and oldtimers, or at least not the complete information.

Here, the technical data for vehicles like these are being gathered and archived. In case of need, they are determined and made available based on the respective chassis number. This makes inspection in compliance with § 21 (full inspection) significantly easier and thus contributes to a cost reduction.

How to get your hands on your vehicle’s technical data:

Send an informal fax with the following information (fax 08 21/59 04-1 59):

1. Chassis number
2. Copy of registration papers from abroad, if available
3. Indicate whether it is shift gear or automatic (number of gears)
4. Indicate the engine type (depending on the manufacturing year, it is indicated on the motor block, maybe also on the cast, or on a sticker inside the engine bay, a code for the engine type)
5. With carburettors:
   - Dual or quad carburettor? - Manufacturer?
6. If available: Write down the code on the sticker (on the inside) on the driver’s door
