Short-term Number Plates
The "Red Number"
This number is meant to be used for vehicle transfers, test and inspection rides and used to be called “Red Number“.
You get this number, generally limited to five days, from your registration office. To get the short-term number, you need a confirmation of vehicle insurance coverage (different from the “normal” insurance card) you need to get from your vehicle insurance company, your identity card / passport, a written certificate of authority in case you act on someone else’s behalf, maybe vehicle documents (registration papers, purchase contract etc.).
The number’s expiration date, i.e. the last day you are permitted to use it, is embossed on the right hand side of the yellow field. After this date, the number plate is worthless and may be disposed of at e.g. recycling depots – there is no need to hand it in anymore.
