First step towards Europe-wide hydrogen training scheme
First step towards Europe-wide hydrogen training scheme
Hydrogen as a fuel is on the rise. TÜV SÜD Akademie won a call by the European Commission and is now working with five partners to develop a scheme for providing training courses and information material in this field across Europe. The training courses and information materials target staff of public bodies involved in the licensing of hydrogen plants and of hydrogen plant owners, aiming to establish a standardized level of knowledge and ensure safe handling of this modern technology. The website www.hyfacts.eu is now online and offers initial information on the subject. But that's not all. In addition, TÜV SÜD Akademie has already been offering training courses in this area.
The website www.hyfacts.eu includes a worldwide calendar of hydrogen-related events. Training providers which offer training courses in this area can upload the relevant information on this site. A Europe-wide survey aimed at determining the exact training needs of hydrogen plant owners and public authorities is currently under way. TÜV SÜD Akademie has several years of training experience in this field, from a foundation course on hydrogen technology to qualification as "Competent Person" and training courses addressing and discussing the relevant European regulatory acts. In 2012, the programme includes almost 30 training events across Germany. Interested parties can enter the search term "hydrogen" to find relevant training courses online at www.tuev-sued.de/akademie .
The EU-funded HyFacts (Hydrogen Training Initiatives for Regulators) project aims to develop innovative training schemes and materials targeted at hydrogen plant owners and public bodies. Acting as the leader of a consortium comprising Air Liquide, CCS Global Group, Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL), FAST (Federazione delle Associazioni scientifiche e techniche) and the University of Ulster, TÜV SÜD Akademie is working on establishing a standardized training scheme across Europe which addresses the safe handling of hydrogen.
